What is an Optional Tour?

We have prepared Optional Tours along with this Tournament, to enjoy host Sakai City at its best.
Participants in the Professional Tournament may participate in the tours as much as they like, without any extra fee. If you desire, please apply at the time of entry to the Tournament.

Sakai City Sightseeing Tours

[Learn, Taste and Fully Enjoy Sakai City]

This is the tour to enjoy inside Sakai City, making the rounds of signature scenic spots such a Tojinbo and Maruoka Castle, and eating the renowned seafood and fried tofu.

May 17 (Mon) Mikuni Area Course

・ Oshima: Appreciation of scenic area, strolling
・ Tojinbo: Appreciation of scenic area, strolling. Lunch
・ Mikuniminatomachi: stroll, appreciation of Shamisen playing, experience

May 18 (Tue) Maruoka Area Course

・ Echizen Takeningyo no sato (Echizen Bamboo Doll Village): observation tour, hands-on experience, lunch
・ Maruoka Castle: Observation tour of castle tower, experience of trying on samurai armor and clothing
Japanese hospitality tour

[Touch Japanese culture]

This is the tour to touch Japanese culture, in which participants eat Sakai City school lunch, experience traditional aizome dying using natural materials, and making green tea.

Tour details

[Morning session]

Experience of dying handkerchief or stole, etc. using traditional aizome technique, using natural materials, to create your own original work.

[lunch]

Participants will eat school lunch actually eaten by elementary school students and junior high school students of the Harue area of Sakai City on the day.

[Afternoon session]

“MATCHA” is beginning to be recognized overseas used in sweets. The taste of real matcha and tea ceremony may be unknown. We will have you experience the Japanese culture through drinking and making green tea.

Traditional style rice planting experience tour(Sakai City)

[Let’s experience rice making of Japan with children!]

This is the tour to experience “rice” making, the center of Japanese food culture. Participants will plant rice in the rice field.

Tour details

“Rice” is the center of Japanese food culture. Sakai Town has been developed as a rice production center in Fukui Prefecture since ancient times. You will have an “old-fashioned rice-making experience” in which you will plant paddy rice by hand in a flooded rice field with local children.
After planting rice, you will eat “botamochi” sweets, made from “glutinous rice” harvested in this rice field.

Mikuni Yamahoko Experience Tour (Mikuni cho)

[Let’s enjoy Japanese culture by experiencing the parade float for Mikuni Festival!]

This is a tour to experience a Japanese festival by wearing the traditional Japanese “happi jacket” clothing and pulling parade floats, for one of the three major festivals in the Hokuriku Region, the “Mikuni Festival.”

Tour details

One of the three major festivals in the Hokuriku Region, the “Mikuni Festival,” is held from May 19 to 21 every year, and attracts 150,000 to 200,000 spectators. You can experience this Japanese festival on the 20th, which is the day of the break during the Tournament. The height of a float is about 6.5m, and six floats assemble at Mikuni Shrine and then go around the city, with the sound of shamisen, flute, and Japanese drums. Let’s enjoy the Japanese festival by wearing the traditional Japanese Happi jacket costume and pulling a float!

About application

For participants in the Professional Tournament, Optional Tour Fees are included in the Participation Fee for the Tournament (separate expenses are required for those accompanying participants). Please select tours as you like and apply together at the time of making your entry for the Tournament.

Details are scheduled to be announced when we start accepting entries on September 1, 2020.

Although we are advancing planning preparations for holding this Tournament next year subject to the end of Covid-19. However, carefully monitoring the situation of infections going forward and placing the utmost priority on ensuring safety of participant and related people, we may cancel the Tournament depending on the situation. We request those who desire to participate to understand this in advance.
We will provide information on holding the Tournament as necessary via this Website.
